Heidrick & Struggles Names Carlene M. Ziegler to Board of Directors

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 8, 1999-- Co-Founder of Artisan Partners LP Joins Recent External Appointees Heidrick & Struggles International, Inc. (Nasdaq: HSII), the world's leading executive search firm, announced today that Carlene M. Ziegler, co-founder and manager of the institutional investment management firm Artisan Partners LP, has been appointed to its Board of Directors.

Ziegler becomes the third director to be named to the Board from outside the company. Adidas-Salomon AG Chairman Robert Louis-Dreyfus and USWeb/CKS CEO Robert Shaw were appointed to the Board in September 1999. Her appointment brings the total number of HSII directors to 11.

She and her husband, Andrew Ziegler, co-founded the Milwaukee-based Artisan Partners in 1995 and manage it together. She is also co-manager of the firm's Artisan Small Cap Fund.

With investment offices in Atlanta and San Francisco, Artisan Partners manages money for large endowments, foundations and pension plans and acts as the investment advisor for the Artisan Funds, a family of four no-load mutual funds.

Prior to founding Artisan Partners, Ziegler, 43, was a co-manager of the Strong Common Stock Fund, Strong Opportunity Fund and numerous institutional small-capitalization equity portfolios at Milwaukee's Strong Capital Management. Before joining Strong Capital Management in 1991, she spent eleven years with Stein, Roe & Farnham of Chicago, and co-managed the SteinRoe Special Fund from 1986 to 1991.

She holds degrees from the University of Illinois and an M.B.A. from the University of Chicago. A Chartered Financial Analyst, Ziegler has been a member of Barron's Roundtable and is a frequent commentator on small-cap investing.
