Heidrick and Struggles Names Covad's Robert E. Knowling to Board of Directors
CHICAGO, Sept. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Heidrick & Struggles International, Inc. (Nasdaq: HSII), the world's largest and premier executive search firm, today announced that Robert E. Knowling, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Covad Communications (Nasdaq: COVD), has been elected to its Board of Directors.

Knowling becomes the fourth director named to the Board from outside the company. He joins adidas-Salomon AG Chief Executive Officer Robert Louis-Dreyfus, SVIC Chief Executive Officer Robert W. Shaw and Artisan Partners LP Managing Director Carlene M. Ziegler, who became members of the Board in 1999. His appointment brings the total number of HSI Group directors to twelve.
Knowling, 45, is responsible for all aspects of Covad's national roll-out as well as day-to-day operations. Santa Clara-based Covad is the nation's leading broadband services provider of high-speed Internet and network access utilizing Digital Subscriber Line (DSL).
Formerly, Knowling was executive vice president of operations and technology at US West and, before that, he was vice president of network operations for Ameritech.
Knowling also serves on the board of directors for Hewlett-Packard Company, Ariba, Inc. and Broadmedia, Inc., as well as Juvenile Diabetes Foundation International. He holds an M.B.A. from Northwestern University's Kellogg Graduate School of Management -- where he is also a member of the advisory board -- and a bachelor of arts degree from Wabash College.
