Professional Profile

John "J." Hewins is co-leader of executive assessment for the Americas. He has led projects ranging from individual pre-hire or pre-invest assessments, five to ten member top team assessments, to 80+ executive global succession plans. J. focuses on the senior-most level of leadership, and has served and presented to CEOs, boards, investors, and heads of HR as clients. His assessment work has driven selection decisions and individual coaching plans, as well as succession planning, executive coaching, and team- and organization-level change.

J. rejoined Heidrick & Struggles in 2004 from Spencer Trask Ventures, a New York-based private equity firm, where he focused on investment due diligence and in-house recruiting, management assessment and development for the firm's portfolio companies. Prior to Spencer Trask, J. was director of strategy and corporate development at Heidrick & Struggles, where he played a key role in the firm's direct investment activities and in establishing the Leadership Consulting business.

Earlier in his career, J. served as a strategy consultant at Mitchell Madison Group, USWeb/CKS and marchFIRST; as an associate at ARCH Development, the venture capital arm of the University of Chicago and Argonne National Laboratory; and as director of research for RLM Associates, a retained executive search firm in New York that is now the financial services practice of the Diversified Search Companies, a division of MPS Group.

Education

J. earned his MBA in finance from the University of Chicago and his bachelor's degree in anthropology from Columbia University, summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
