Rajen has 10 years of experience in management consulting with firms like McKinsey & Company and ECS Ltd (now a PriceWaterhouse Coopers firm). He joined Heidrick & Struggles as an associate principal in the Leadership Consulting Practice in Singapore in 2009.
Rajen has served clients on issues across strategy, operations and organisation structure & behaviour. He is passionate about the intersection between strategy and leadership – he was a fellow with the McKinsey Centre for Asian Leadership.
Rajen has served clients in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Phillippines, Sri Lanka, South Korea and Bahrain in financial services, industrials, government and consumer facing industries.
Examples of his work in the area of leadership development include pre-deal management risk evaluations for a private equity firm; pre-IPO assessment of country heads in Asia for a global insurer; building global CFOs and finance leaders for a USD25bn Korean conglomerate in the context of multiple European and American acquisitions; post acquisition succession risk mitigation for a top 5 global asset leasing company; structure and leadership recommendations for business build out of global general insurance major; designing the Asia Pacific structure, roles and assessing leaders to enable 700% growth in 5 years for an Asian lubricants major, post acquisition of an Italian major; designing a ‘Leadership Development Engine’ to groom 15 leaders to each head a $ 1 bn business for the market leader EPC in India; structure, leadership assessment and coaching for the market leader in education services in India, in the run-up to its IPO and international expansion; CEO succession at Sri Lanka’s most profitable bank, etc.
In the field of change management, he has worked with a national oil company in Southeast Asia to help increase user adoption of a new multi-million dollar ERP system; and in creating operational stability at India’s 2nd largest bank after creation of shared services unit.
Engagements in business strategy include serving the Crown Prince of a Mid-Eastern country on a strategy to develop a country in the middle east as a a financial services hub; strategy to increase wallet share of corporate banking customers for an Indian bank; customer segmentation and organisation re-alignment for a global bank headquartered in Singapore and London; institutional sales strategy for a global pharma major in India.
He has also led several operations engagements which include centralisation of business processes for banks; business process improvement for banks and insurance; assessing IT effectiveness of 25 Asian banks across Asia-Pacific.
Prior to his career in consulting, Rajen worked as business development manager for GSK Consumer Healthcare India.
He is an award nominated screenwriter with 4 screenplays having been produced into motion pictures, and a speaker at forums such as TEDx.
