Hamish Johnstone is a partner with Heidrick & Struggles based in the Wellington office. With more than eleven years in the industry, primarily focused on human resources, Hamish has spent the last nine years working as an expatriate in the Middle East.
Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Hamish was the vice president human resources in the Middle East for DHL Supply Chain, the world’s largest global logistics provider, where he was responsible for driving delivery of ME business objectives through the provision of strategic HR support that enhanced organisational capability and drove performance improvement through resourcing, retention and development of talent.
Hamish also spent three years as general manager group HR for Al-Futtaim Group in Dubai, a privately-owned conglomerate with more than 50 joint venture and fully owned subsidiary companies. He was responsible for nearly 5000 employees over seven divisions – retail, automotive, electronics, industrial, finance, real estate and property development.
His earlier early career spanned eleven years with Sheffield Consulting Group Limited in New Zealand as associate director. There, Hamish worked in the areas of organisational development, executive search, selection and remuneration and performance development. He was previously a management consultant for Alexander Proudfoot Limited and a money market broker for Astley & Pearce Limited.
