The Utilities Industry is unique from an operational and from a talent perspective. Despite difficult economic times, this industry is somewhat immune to the global crisis in that regulated utilities are on a fixed rate of return so they are not as deeply affected by an economic crunch on a day-to-day basis.
However, the industry is facing a period of significant change with increasing regulatory focus on increasingly stringent environmental regulation, and with major investment programmes in grid infrastructure, energy efficiency, water treatment and conservation and waste recycling.
Access to capital continues to be limited so spending programs for growth are under pressure. Equally, deregulation and increased competition in some geographies is driving the talent agenda as utilities seek to gain market share.
Heidrick & Struggles understands the issues facing Utilities companies in day-to-day business, as well as from a talent perspective. During the past year, we have successfully completed a wide range of CEO and board-level searches globally.
As utility asset ownership has expanded, so has our client base, today including investor owned utilities, private equity firms, investment banks, and foreign and domestic infrastructure funds.
Heidrick & Struggles’ understanding of these challenges and of the types of leaders that excel in this environment has allowed it to help clients build successful Boards and senior leadership teams for global and regional clients of all sizes.
