Dubai office sponsors Innovation Day Camp with Injaz UAEOctober 28, 2013
On October 28th 2013, the Dubai office partnered with Injaz UAE to sponsor “I can b! Innovation Day Camp”, an exciting one-day workshop that challenged high school students to find innovative solutions to real business problems, using creativity, out of the box techniques, and teamwork. Injaz UAE is a member of Junior Achievement Worldwide, and connects corporate volunteers to classrooms and youth, to train them in success skills, entrepreneurship and financial literacy – nurturing the leaders of tomorrow.
The Dubai Heidrick & Struggles team worked with a group of 48 high school students to help them develop leadership, problem solving, team-work, communication and presentation skills, while learning about entrepreneurship.
The day started with some ice-breakers and energizers that got the team moving, followed by activities to inspire the students to solve problems related to tourism in Dubai. The students then learned how to create business plans, and were given the challenge of coming up with a S.M.A.R.T. idea for a product or service to present to our very own celebrity judges (Jon Boyle and Raed Sater). The students came up with some very innovative ideas, including the winning team’s idea of “Frost-head”, a solar powered bikers helmet that provides ventilation. In their 2.5 minute elevator pitches, the student teams used creative ways to discuss product features, target audience and marketing plans for their ideas.
Feedback from the students was very positive, they enjoyed the session especially the opportunity to address real life challenges by thinking “outside the box”, while learning to work in teams and building trust and confidence. The volunteers all enjoyed this unique experience of going back into the classroom. It was inspiring to see the students learn new skills and apply them. Over the course of the day the students’ confidence grew and creativity emerged, and it was rewarding to see the impact that was made on a group of young, energetic and ambitious students – future leaders. It also proved to be an invaluable team-building activity for the Dubai office, as they bonded with each other and the students, sharing laughs, victories and most of all learning.
