LeadershipTV® - Cyber Security Attacks Spike Demand for CISO Talent

Subscribe to LeadershipTV 6/15/2014 David Boehmer and Paul Gibson

Demand for cyber security talent has grown with the influx of data breaches in the marketplace, making the  Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) role critical for businesses today. The growing number of data breaches has prompted a huge spike in demand for cyber security talent in the market. Information and data security is now in the top two concerns of corporate boards today, having not even cracked the top five just five years ago. Combined with the operational and potential reputational risk in the event of a data breach, companies are moving quickly to shore up their CISO talent.

Typically when sourcing talent for these leadership roles, clients will ask for candidates with the following characteristics:

  1. Demonstrated leadership qualities
  2. Technical and regulatory experience
  3. Overarching vision of a risk framework

Having seen the number of searches for these types of cyber security roles increase in the last two years when compared to the last two, we anticipate that demand for both Chief Information Security Officers and Chief Risk Officers to continue to grow.

In this first video in the Heidrick & Struggles Leadership LeadershipTVTM series, we’ll consider this trend in leadership development.
