The privatization of the biggest infrastructure services company in Finland created a new vision of expansion into Eastern markets, and the need for a completely different approach to management. A systematic leadership plan is now in place.
Moving from government ownership to a public company was a big step for Destia. Company culture and staff competencies needed to change, while the chill winds of competition immediately engulfed the fledgling business.
Following an initial consultation phase, we identified several key leadership talent needs:
- Branding and marketing plans to depict Destia as an employer of choice
- A benchmarked and metric-driven recruitment program
- Regular performance reviews and talent assessments'
- Career development programs
- Retention strategies, particularly after acquisitions
Our leadership consulting process included:
- In-depth research and analysis of the business strategy
- Interviews with the executive committee and senior-level executives
- An intensive two-day workshop with the executive committee to gain consensus and commitment to the priorities for the transformation of the business
- Implementation of a formalized process of reviews for about 180 employees. This is currently in place, while a comprehensive training and development program is in development
With the new programs in place, we embarked on a systematic process of communication within Destia to support its strategic objectives. The change program will also include another significant upgrade to Destia’s human capital, a key component of the company’s continued expansion into Russia and the Baltic Sea markets.
