Matt Stencil is a partner in Heidrick & Struggles’ Chicago office and a member of the firm's Industrial Practice.
With more than fifteen years experience in corporate and consulting environments focusing on procuring and developing talent, Matt specializes in the manufacturing and natural resources sectors, filling and building leadership teams across functions including CEO, CFO, CHRO, president and other positions for multinational clients.
Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Matt was a partner with Gallup Consulting where he managed a multi-million dollar portfolio of fortune 500 clients, leading multiple and complex workplace and marketplace engagements. Previously, he was managing director of a regional consultancy, where he built the organizational infrastructure and professional services capabilities for small privately held concerns and middle-market organizations.
Over the years, Matt has presented and led seminars for numerous professional groups on topics ranging from change management to developing consultative intrapreneurial / entrepreneurial frameworks. Matt began his earlier career as a human resources executive with a Northeast Ohio firm where he focused on talent attraction, retention and development.
Matt's civic interests include serving on the St. Joseph School board, coaching football at St. Joseph Amherst, and actively volunteering with Boy Scouts of America in both district leadership and assistant scoutmaster roles.

A former Scarlet & Grey scholar, Matt earned his bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University. Afterward, he went on to earn graduate degrees including an MBA from Colorado State University with an emphasis on strategic decision-making, and a master of science degree in psychology from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Matt has multiple industry certifications including executive assessment and interviewing and individual executive & executive team development. He is fluent in English, Portuguese and Spanish.
