Scott Tempel

Scott Tempel is a senior client principal in Heidrick & Struggles’ Los Angeles office. He has more than 30 years of experience in senior leadership roles in organizational and human resources consulting, strategic planning, and talent management. He rejoined Senn Delaney, now a Heidrick & Struggles company, in 2014, having previously served as a vice president more than two decades prior.

Prior to rejoining Heidrick & Struggles, Scott spent 18 years in organization development senior leadership roles at PacifiCare Health Systems (now UnitedHealthcare), Irvine Company, and Corinthian Colleges, Inc. He has led several culture-shaping initiatives in healthcare and education, as well as re-engineering and implementing a new sales process in a senior health plan company. He also designed and implemented performance management and succession planning systems at two major organizations and designed and coordinated the annual strategic planning process for a healthcare organization.

Scott started his career in healthcare as a clinical director of a mental health center and became vice president of the selection assessment division of TRACOM-Social Styles.

Scott was a pre-publishing reviewer of the books, The Heart of Coaching (1998) by Thomas G. Crane and TOP Box Leadership (2012) by William C. Sproule. He also co-authored chapters in Leadership, Teambuilding and Cultural Change-A Guide to Organizational and Personal Effectiveness (1995) and In The Eye of The Storm: Reengineering Corporate Culture (1994), both books written by Senn Delaney chairman Larry Senn and John Childress.

In addition to his consulting work, Scott co-founded and served as the first executive director of The Alex Center and The Alex Foundation for Brain Injury. The Alex Foundation was the only non-public, residential educational and neuro-rehabilitation program in the western United States for children with brain injury. In 2002, the American Brain Injury Foundation awarded Scott the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Scott serves on both the advisory and executive boards of the University of California, Irvine Extension School for Business and Management. He also is on the housing advisory council for the Regional Center of Orange County. Scott also serves on the human services advisory committee for Goodwill of Orange County.
