Jonathan Zhu is a partner in Heidrick & Struggles’ Shanghai office and leads the firm’s Life Science & Government Affairs practices in China. He has more than 20 years of professional experience in both private and public sectors.
Jonathan was one of the first Chinese-American lobbyists working for an established Washington DC-based government affairs consulting firm. During his tenure with the organization, Jonathan advised multinational companies in Sino-America transactions at strategic and tactical levels.
He also held senior positions, including China country general manager and corporate marketing director for both US and Japanese publicly listed multinational companies in the industrial and analytical/medical diagnostic industries.
Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Jonathan was a partner with another global executive search company, where he led its life sciences and government affairs practices in China. Earlier in his career, he worked for the United States Department of Defense. Reported to a major general in the United States Air Force where he gained the fundamental life values of devotion, discipline and teamwork. Jonathan also served on the Asia advisory board for Coloplast, a Danish-based global medical device company. He has also served as trusted advisor to several leading pharmaceutical and medical devices companies in the region.
He has published papers on the topics of China government affairs, organizational development and corporate structures in such journals as Pharmaceutical China.
Jonathan’s academic background includes a BS in engineering from University of Maryland, a MBA from University of Baltimore and a LLM from China University of Political Science & Law.
