Arjen (AJ) van den Berg is a partner in Heidrick & Struggles’ London office and a member of the Leadership Consulting Practice. He previously served as a partner at Decision Strategies International, a global strategy and leadership development advisory firm acquired by Heidrick & Struggles in 2016.
At DSI, he served as the managing director and co-founder of the European office in London where he led the European consulting and leadership development activities. Arjen’s consulting career started at a leading international consulting firm. Over the past two decades, he has helped clients across the world navigate uncertain market environments and architect their growth journeys.
Arjen specializes in using scenario planning, business model innovation, and options thinking to ensure that senior decision-makers and their organizations develop robust, future-proofed strategies and options to survive and thrive in the face of uncertainty. His experience spans numerous industries, with particular depth in energy, media and technology, and financial services, including investment banking, wealth management, and corporate banking.

Worked with numerous multinational companies on various future studies, including the future of the Internet, the future of financial services, the future of HR in Europe, and the future of global oncology pricing models.
Designed and implemented an award-winning corporate university for a global wealth manager to fortify the leadership skills of managers, and the functional skills of several hundred of the most senior, client-facing team members through on-going learning opportunities.
Developed and implemented a dynamic workforce planning model for one of the world’s largest offshore drilling contractors to better manage the global talent portfolio for the future.
Advised the board and worked closely with top executives of an international electricity and gas company on embedding a unique, adaptive strategic planning approach to create competitive advantage in a rapidly changing market environment.
Arjen earned his Ph.D. in strategic management from the Warwick Business School, University of Warwick. He conducted post-doctoral research at Stern School of Business (NYU). He also holds a BA in business administration from the Amsterdam School of Business and a degree in marketing from the Dutch institute of Marketing (NIMA A and B).
