Richard Greene is a partner in Heidrick & Struggles’ New York office and leads the Succession Planning Practice in North America. His client work focuses on CEO succession planning, board effectiveness, and executive coaching. Over the course of his career, Richard has assessed and provided feedback to more than 1,200 executives across six continents. He has led CEO succession engagements for clients in agribusiness, banking, insurance, energy, healthcare, private equity (both firm and portfolio company), real estate, technology services, and many other sectors.

During his career with Heidrick & Struggles, Richard has been a partner, a regional practice leader, and an executive officer. From 2015-2018, he was the chief human resources officer and a member of the management committee, working closely with the board of directors on the firm’s chair and CEO successions that took place in 2017. Richard championed multiple culture initiatives including a visionary diversity & inclusion program. He founded and remains executive sponsor for the global Accelerating Women’s Excellence initiative.

Earlier in his career, Richard was global head of talent management at Bunge, a leading agribusiness company with primary offices in Geneva, São Paulo, Singapore, and St. Louis. He was chief operating officer of the KIPP Foundation, which is recognized in the United States as a model for education reform in traditionally underserved, urban communities.

Richard serves on the advisory board of Empirical Hire based in Tel Aviv, which applies data science and machine learning to help clients hire talent that performs better and stays longer. He is also a member of the advisory board for the Center for Women in Business at Rutgers University, where he chairs the strategic planning committee.

Education:

Richard earned both an MBA and a BA in history, with honors, from George Washington University.
