Harry O’Neill is HR and talent management director for Asia Pacific and the Middle East based in Heidrick & Struggles’ Hong Kong office. Harry drives the firm’s people agenda in the region, with particular emphasis on diversity and inclusion. Harry has held various leadership roles with the firm, including leading the Financial Services Practice in Asia Pacific and the Middle East for more than seven years, and he led the CEO & Board Practice in Hong Kong for three years. Over the past 25 years, Harry has completed numerous high-level placements in the region, encompassing C-suite, financial services and board functions. In addition to his HR leadership role, Harry continues to work with the firm’s clients on strategic leadership needs.
Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Harry was managing director at another global search firm, which he joined when it combined businesses with the Hong Kong search firm he founded in 1994.
Harry started his finance career in London with JP Morgan before joining the trading team at Allied Irish Bank where he was involved in the early development of the traded derivatives markets. In addition, he worked in Kuwait, Singapore and Sydney, latterly for Deutsche Bank.
Harry is a former chairman of the board of the Association of Executive Search Consultants and its Asia Pacific Council. He has been extensively involved in Irish community organisations in the region and served as Honorary Consul of Ireland to Hong Kong from 2006 until the establishment of the country's first Consulate General in Hong Kong in 2014. Harry co-chairs the firm’s APAC Diversity Council, and is co-global leader of Pride@Heidrick, an LGBT employee resource group that also serves to advance LGBT leadership worldwide.
Harry was voted the “most admired individual headhunter for debt and global markets searches, Asia-wide” from 2001 to 2006 in Asiamoney’s Headhunter's Poll.
