Chief Legal Officer and Chief Inclusion Officer


Kamau Coar is the chief legal officer and chief inclusion officer based in Heidrick & Struggles’ Chicago office. As chief legal officer, Kamau is responsible for the legal organization and global legal strategy, with responsibility for corporate governance, compliance and ethics, privacy, enterprise risk, risk management, and sustainability. As chief inclusion officer, he is responsible for leading the firm’s internal diversity and inclusion efforts to create and deliver concrete, sustainable, and measurable actions that will increase diverse representation, foster a sense of belonging, and provide meaningful opportunities for all our employees to grow and succeed. 


Kamau also leads the Director Institute, a unique apprenticeship program designed to accelerate the development of diverse leaders for board service.

Prior to his current roles, Kamau held various leadership roles within Heidrick & Struggles globally. Most recently he was vice president and associate general counsel in Singapore, supporting the firm’s Asia Pacific operations.

Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Kamau was a partner in private legal practice.
