Ellen Brown Landers is a principal in Heidrick & Struggles’ Atlanta office and a member of the Education, Nonprofit and Social Enterprise Practice. She specializes in higher education and nonprofit leadership searches.

Ellen has been with the firm since 1996 and has conducted a wide range of searches for universities and colleges, including chancellors, presidents, provosts, functional vice presidents, general counsels and deans.  She also works with foundations, government agencies, associations and other nonprofits on executive level assignments.

Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Ellen served as assistant general counsel for the State Bar of Georgia handling a wide variety of legal and policy issues for the Bar.  Ellen also practiced law as an associate with Smith, Gambrell & Russell where her practice focused on commercial litigation.

She remains actively involved in professional and community activities serving as a board member at Hands On Atlanta, board member and past board chair of the Georgia Justice Project, and a past member of the Wake Forest Alumni Council.  She recently completed service as chair of the Executive Search Roundtable of the American Council on Education (ACE) and also received the Points of Light/BoardSource Board Member of the Month award in 2013.

Education:

Ellen received a BA (with honors) from Wake Forest University and subsequently earned her JD from the University of Georgia School of Law where she served as president of the Student Bar Association. She has also completed “Governing for Non-Profit Excellence” at the Harvard Business School.
