Global markets focus: Insights on leading a SPAC

Joseph Reece, co-founder and managing partner at SilverBox Capital, discusses starting SPACs, searching for talent, and where he sees the future of SPACs heading.

In this interview, Heidrick & Struggles’ Elisabetta Bartoloni speaks to Joseph Reece, co-founder and managing partner at SilverBox Capital, an alternative investment manager operating across multiple platforms and the sponsor of a series of SPACs. Reece talks about why he decided to get involved in SPACs after a long career as an investment banker, first at Credit Suisse and UBS and then as the CEO of Helena Capital. He shares some of the lessons he has learned in starting SPACs as well as some common mistakes people make in doing so, and discusses how he went about putting together his team that needed both investment and operational experts, what specific skill sets he wanted for the management team and the board of directors, and where he sees the future of SPACs in two to three years.
