Charles Commander is a partner of the Atlanta office of Heidrick & Struggles and a leader of the firm’s global Engineering, Construction & Infrastructure Practice.

Charles focuses on engineering and construction clients with particular emphasis on the US market and international searches requiring US talent. He has successfully executed a wide range of searches within these markets across all functions and levels of appointments including CEO, president/COO, CFO, and project and program management roles. He is particularly active across the E&C industry in succession planning, and having served as a COO of an E&C firm, understands first-hand the CEO and COO succession issues.

Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Charles was associated with another global executive search firm, as a member of their real estate, industrial, and supply chain practices.

Previously, Charles was president of Florida Centerline Construction Company, a Florida Department of Transportation-certified highway construction and logistics contractor. Under his leadership, the company completed over 15 federally funded multi-year highway reconstruction projects. Previously, Charles worked in Florida as a licensed commercial real estate broker with Cushman and Wakefield and as a financial analyst.

Charles also served as an officer in the US Navy, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant commander in the Supply Corps. He last served as the logistics officer for a Naval Mobile Construction Battalion, winning the Naval Achievement Medal from the Secretary of the Navy.


Charles earned his MBA at the University of North Carolina's Kenan-Flagler Business School, and his bachelor's degree at Princeton University.
