Clayton Sears is a principal in Heidrick & Struggles' Houston office and leads the firm’s Alternative & Renewable Energy practice in the Americas. He is also a member of the global Industrial, CEO & Board of Directors, and Financial Officers practices. Clayton focuses primarily on C-level and board search assignments within the renewable energy, oil & gas, and chemicals sectors. His experience spans chief executive officer, chief financial officer, chief commercial officer, chief operating officer, and board searches across these industries for both public and private equity-backed companies.
Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Clayton served for six years in the United States Marine Corps as an infantry officer. He deployed twice to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and also served on the general’s staff of the Marine Corps’ Special Operations Command, where he held a leading role in shaping the organization’s strategy in the Middle East.
Clayton earned a master of business administration, with honors, from the University of Texas and a bachelor of science degree, with merit, in systems engineering from the United States Naval Academy.
