What CEOs learn from board roles: An interview with Richard Tyson, CEO of TT Electronics and NED of the Vitec Group

In this interview, Tyson discusses what surprised him about the non-executive role given his previous experience sitting on a subsidiary board and the differences between how D&I is advanced in an executive role versus a non-executive role.

For our video series, “What CEOs learn from board roles,” Heidrick & Struggles’ Alex Ross speaks with Richard Tyson, the CEO of TT Electronics, a global provider of engineered electronics for performance-critical applications, and an NED of the Vitec Group, a provider of image capture and content creation solutions. Tyson joined the board of Vitec Group after being the CEO of TT for four years and he shares how his particular role as a board member influenced his executive role, what surprised him about the non-executive role given his previous experience sitting on a subsidiary board, and the benefits and challenge of having a board seat in a different industry than his CEO role. Tyson also discusses the ways in which remote working has made it harder and easier to fill both of his roles and the differences between how D&I is advanced in an executive role versus a non-executive role.
