Women on technology company boards: Building and supporting diversity

12/8/2020 Lee Hanson

Heidrick & Struggles’ Lee Hanson speaks with Maggie Wilderotter, chair of the board of directors of DocuSign and former CEO of Frontier Communications, about the evolving role of women in the boardroom. Wilderotter discusses the importance of intentional leadership to diversity efforts, why diversity is good business, her efforts to support other women, and changes to the shareholder investment base. She also shares her opinion on diversity mandates, what interest she’s seeing boards take in terms of the backgrounds and experiences they are looking for, and the areas where women are more likely to struggle when they first join a board.

Lee Hanson (lhanson@heidrick.com) is a vice chairman in Heidrick & Struggles’ San Francisco and New York offices; she is a member of the Financial Services and CEO & Board practices.
