Charles E. Commander

Overview

Charles is a partner in Heidrick & Struggles’ Atlanta office and global leader of the Engineering, Construction and Infrastructure Practice. He is also a member of the Transportation and Logistics and CEO & Board of Directors practices. Charles focuses on executing search assignments for board director, CEO, COO, CFO, president, C-level functional roles and divisional leadership positions. Charles’ search engagements span industrial services, including among others, logistics and transportation-related sectors. He has a background in civil infrastructure, environmental remediation logistics, and the transportation industry sectors as well as two decades of relevant search experience.

Experience

Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles nearly 20 years ago, Charles was associated with another global executive search firm as a member of the industrial services and supply chain practices. Charles was previously CEO, president and CFO of Florida Centerline Company, a Florida Department of Transportation-certified highway construction company, with subsidiaries that included an underground utilities contractor and a logistics business comprised of a private fleet and 3PL components. Under his leadership, the company completed several federally-funded multi-year transportation-related infrastructure projects and scores of underground utilities, environmental remediation, and transportation infrastructure projects throughout the Southeast. He successfully sold the business to a strategic buyer.

Previously, Charles was an officer in the U.S. Navy where he served as Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy’s Supply Corps. He last acted as the logistics officer for a Naval Mobile Construction Battalion and was awarded the Naval Achievement Medal from the Secretary of the Navy.
